All acoustic installations are designed to meet the requirements of Building Regulations Part E for resistance to the passage of sound. FAQs

Common Questions About Drylining & Soundproofing in Bournemouth

Party wall soundproofing typically costs between £800–£2,500 depending on the wall area, the system specified and access conditions. Independent wall linings offer the highest performance but require the most space. We'll specify the most cost-effective system for your situation during a free home visit.

Drylining refers to lining walls and ceilings with plasterboard using a dry method — either dot and dab adhesive, metal stud framing or MF ceiling grids — without wet plaster being applied to the structural surface. Plastering then typically follows as the finishing coat on top. The two trades are complementary: KCL's directly employed drylining team handles the boarding, our long-standing plastering partners handle the finish.

A well-specified and properly installed acoustic system can achieve a significant reduction in perceived noise — typically 10–15dB of additional attenuation, which most people experience as halving the apparent volume. No system eliminates all noise entirely, but the improvement is substantial and immediately noticeable. We'll always give you an honest assessment of what's achievable before any work begins.

Dot and dab adds approximately 25–30mm to the wall surface including board thickness and adhesive dabs. This is minimal in most rooms and is why dot and dab is preferred over independent studwork when acoustic performance isn't the primary goal. Independent wall linings on metal stud frames take more space — typically 75–100mm — but offer significantly better acoustic performance.

A single room drylining project typically takes 1–2 days. Larger multi-room projects or full house first-fix boarding can take several days to a week. Acoustic systems with independent wall linings may take slightly longer due to the additional layers involved. We'll programme the work clearly when we quote.
